New Assistant Director Micah Smith Joins the Team!

Hi! My name is Micah Smith and I’m the new Assistant Director for the Newark Campus Development Fund, Thomas J. Evans Foundation and the Gilbert Reese Family Foundation. I am beyond thrilled to be joining this team and want to share a little bit about myself!

I was born and raised right here in Newark, OH. I graduated from Licking Valley High School and after graduation I attended The Ohio State University Newark campus. I have been married to my amazing husband, Shane, for 13 years and we have two beautiful daughters, Sloan (9) and Rowan (6). We love to have family game nights, outdoor movie nights in our backyard, and spend time walking our two dogs around our neighborhood. In any other spare time we may have, Shane and I also enjoy playing pickleball – he way more competitively than I! But I do my best to keep up.

Although I ended up getting my degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Ohio State Newark will always hold a very special place in my heart. My connection to the campus comes way before spending a few years there as an 18-year-old working towards my degree. My first exposure to the campus came at the age of three when I attended the childcare facility while my mom went back to college at COTC for General Ultrasound, a field she is still working in to this day. Fast forward a few years and it was my dad’s turn to return to Ohio State Newark to obtain his teaching degree. While he was attending summer classes my siblings and I were spending time in the library, riding our bikes around the bike paths close to the school, and having lunch in the cafeteria (this was my favorite part!).

Throughout my professional career I’ve worked at State Farm, RevLocal, and most recently CoverMyMeds. With each position I’ve held I feel I have been able to directly impact people’s lives in some way and that’s something I cherish. I enjoy being able to get-to-know people, hear their stories, and learn about what drives them.

Recently I had the pleasure of walking around the campus and seeing all of the new buildings and updates and I was taken right back to my fond memories from all those years ago. Whether as a child, a pre-teen, or a fresh high school graduate trying to take my first steps on my own in the world the Newark campus has been a place of joy, learning, and fun. I am truly grateful that my path has come full circle and brought me back here. I’m thrilled to be a part of this organization that is so beneficial to Licking County.
